Verhackertes
“Verhackertes”, or also “Sasaka”, is a bread spread made out of smoked bacon. The bacon was originally chopped although today it is minced in a mincer with garlic or onion. Verhackertes is traditionally eaten in Carinthia and tastes particularly good on fresh bread.
Ingredients
- 500 g bacon (smoked, finely chopped and minced)
- 2 garlic coves (crushed)
- 100 g lard
- salt
- pepper
Directions for Verhackertes
- Remove the rind from the bacon and finely chop the bacon or mince.
- Peel the garlic, crush and add to the minced bacon. Mix with the lard and season with salt and pepper.
TIP
To make this more flavoursome, use spicy bacon and serve on dark Farmhouse Bread or Kürbiskernbrot with thinly sliced onion rings.
