HISTORY BOX

The origins of this salad date back to the 17th century and it is still popular today. Many argue whether it should include a little sugar or left without and all Austrian households strive to achieve the perfect Potato Salad recipe! However, over time, Potato Salad and mixed salad have almost disappeared as an accompaniment to the Wiener Schnitzel and are, instead, often replaced with more filling sides such as rice, new potatoes with parsley, fried potatoes and even chips.

A world classic recipe - Wiener Schnitzel: a thin breaded, pan-fried veal cutlet.
Wiener Schnitzel is a thin breaded, pan-fried veal cutlet. It’s a real world classic and named a regional favourite amongst all Austrians!
The crispy coated chicken is a genuine Austrian dish and a Viennese original.
Today, Backhendl, or breaded Fried Chicken, has a firm place in all pub and inn menus across Austria but it hasn’t always been like this. What was once a luxurious dish, is today synonymous with typical Austrian Cuisine.
